Task to Immediate Surroundings, recommended max ratio 3:1 The graph below shows the luminance ratios for the Task to Immediate Surroundings view context (in this case, Book to Desk) for each station and time, as measured on March 18th, 2005. We see here that the contrast between the luminance of the book and the desk may be uncomfortable high for station 1, closest to the window, where the luminance readings for the book are fairly high. To a lesser extent, the ratios are again too high for station 3, behind the partition, where, this time, the readings for both book and desk are quite low. Station 2, five feet farther from the window than station 1, is just borderline.
