Dear Madam or Sir,

            I am seeking employment in any of the following fields:

    • software development, ideally in C or Perl,
    • writing software system specification documents,
    • computer system analysis and design,
    • Geographic Information Systems (GIS) related work.

            I am a software development engineer with over seven years experience and a BS from UC Berkeley in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.  With my previous employer, Harris Corporation, Microwave Communications Division, I developed in C for a real-time operating system.  I performed tasks of significant responsibility, including the following:

·         led a large project;

·         managed requirements, software modules and tests to be completed;

·         interfaced with our customers, senior management, engineers, system testers, and engineers in our manufacturing plant;

·         wrote system specifications;

·         designed software components;

·         implemented software applications for a real-time operating system, including database services and user interfaces.

I am currently expanding my skill set to include Perl programming, through both a Perl programming course and through the development of a personal project.  I recently created a map of photos taken in Madagascar, using GPS points I gathered while there in October, 2003, layered over a topographic Digital Elevation Map (DEM) of the area.  I wrote a Perl program to read my GPS and Photo data files and generate a set of HTML web pages to display the photos associated with each GPS point.  My Perl program also generates a file for import into ArcView 8.3.

            As you can see, I have also added GIS and GPS to my skill set.  From March through July, 2003, I used ESRI’s ArcView GIS software, as a volunteer with the Santa Clara Valley Audubon Society, for which I received a certificate of appreciation.  The data layers were of non-native invasive plants in four local creeks, data which I helped collect with GPS units.  My work included editing, merging and splitting shape files, installing extensions to perform data analyses, clearly communicating my progress, and helping others with the ArcView software.

            I learn fast and can work on a large variety of job assignments.  I have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and I have the ability to work well in groups or independently.  I can best be reached by email at cedric[at]pitot.org or by phone at 650-494-3747.

Sincerely,

Cedric de La Beaujardiere
